Royal Family spent 119 million in 2008

An annual report has revealed that the Royal Family spent nearly 119 million euros last year. Eighty million of that sum went to the maintenance of palaces and security. Some 1,5 million euros was used for state visits and other events. Queen Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his spouse, Princess Máxima, together received around six million euros. Part of this amount was used to pay staff.

The Royal Family’s budget is now overseen by the Cabinet Office. Up until 1 January 2009 their expenses were covered by different ministries, making it hard to get a complete overview.
